using kappa statistic. Prevalence of nutrient inadequacy was calculated separately for both dietary
methods.
Results: The correlation coefficients corresponding to the nutrient values between HCES data and 24
hour dietary data ranged from 0.3 to 0.4. The kappa statistic for the considered nutrients lied between 0.2
and 0.3. Prevalence of nutrient inadequacy was underestimated from the household data for all nutrients.
Conclusion: There is a good correlation between the nutrient values calculated using HCES and the
values taken directly from 24 hour recall data. However, HCES cannot be considered an accurate method
for individual nutrient dietary assessment.
