             Abstract:
Introduction: Bihar is one of such states which has poorest health indicators and when it comes to
nutritional status of women, the prevalence of under nutrition is high and affected to an extent by Covid
19 pandemic. About 22.9% of women in reproductive age (15 – 49 years) in India and about 30.4% of
women in Bihar are undernourished, with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5 kg/m.
Aims & objectives: To assess the pattern of dietary intake and nutritional status of women in reproductive
age group and to find out the association between socio demographic variables and pattern of dietary
             intake.
Material & method: A cross sectional study was conducted in rural field practice area of NMCH, Sasaram
for a duration of 10 months from October 2020 to August 2021 among 311 women of reproductive age
group who gave consent to participate in the study. Templates were generated in MS Excel sheet and
analysis of data was done using SPSS software (version 20.0)
Results: About 34.1% of rural women were educated upto above primary level. 74% of the women
consumed mixed Indian diet, 22.4% women took their first meal in the afternoon and in 64.1% women,
diet diversity was not maintained, about 74.8% of the women are within the normal range of BMI. Diet
diversity is maintained in literate group with educational status above primary level and the association
between diet diversity and educational status is strongly significant with p < 0.05.
Conclusion: we conclude that there is a significant association between maintenance of diet diversity
             and educational status.
