22% (n=2942) were either single or widowed or separated or divorced under the age group greater than
40 years. One-third of the population (n=11866) had an average of 4 members in their family. Only 30%
(n= 4176) had health insurance or were covered by a health scheme. The multilevel analysis will be
discussed in detail.

Introduction: Ever since immemorial times breastfeeding has been almost universal in India, but there
are regional differences in timely initiation of breastfeeding. It has been documented that initiation of
breastfeeding is highly bound to cultural factors that influence the optimal practices. The government of
India developed National Infant and Young Child Feeding Guideline in 2004 to standardize the practice.
Information education communication and Behavior change communications on breastfeeding have
been going on since then. However, there is a little information on the practice of timely initiation of breast
feeding and factors that predict these practices. The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence
and determinant factors of timely initiation of breastfeeding among mothers in Aligarh District, UP, India.
Methods: We conducted a community based cross sectional study from July 2013 to April 2014. Both
quantitative and qualitative methods were used for data collection. A total 300 mother-infant pairs were
selected using systematic random sampling method. For qualitative data in-depth interview of the key
informants were done conveniently. To identify factors associated with timely initiation of breastfeeding,
descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis were employed.
Results: The prevalence of timely initiation of breastfeeding was found to be 51.3%. Bivariate analysis
showed the presence of formal education, being urban resident and delivering in a government institution
to be significantly associated with timely initiation of breastfeeding (P < 0.05).
Conclusions: Nearly half of the mothers did not start breastfeeding within first hour of delivery. The results
suggested that early initiation of breastfeeding was less in the uneducated, rural and home delivering
mothers as they have lesser contact with various health personals. So behavior change communication
should be directed to this group to promote optimal initiation of breastfeeding.

WHO defines 4 broad sub-forms of undernutrition: wasting (W), stunting (S), underweight (U), and
deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, but there interactions with each other have not been explored
yet. Literature shows evidence of many dual burdens like concurrent stunting and anemia. Child
Anthropometric failure (CIAF) analyses interactions among Stunting (S), Wasting (W) and Underweight
