Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Programme
(JTELP)
he Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi, is the implementing agency for an IFAD supported project-
Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Programme (JTELP) in tribal locations of the Angara
Tblock of Ranchi district through Jharkhand Tribal Development Society (JTDS). The overall project goal
is to "improve the living conditions of tribal people
in general and PTGs in particular" for fostering
community-based institutions, introduction of
sustainable natural resource management systems
and enhancing of food security and cash incomes by
introducing improved farming practices and proven
production technologies. Under this project, RKM is
covering 35 selected villages. For empowering the
communities by means of local decision making
and planning Gram Sabha Project Implementing
Committee (GSPEC) has been formed at village
level. GSPEC acts as the main decision making and
implementing body, which is being facilitated by
RKM. Along with GSPEC, Village Development Fund
(VDF) committee has also been formed at village
level. To harness and develop the potential of rural
youths, 8 Youth Groups (YG) and 7 Female Youth
Group (FYG) have also been formed.
Focus on agriculture was given prime importance.
The major achievement in agriculture was that
in Rabi season (2019-20) 644.19 acres of fallow
land was brought under cultivation. At present
RKM is also facilitating in development of papaya
plantation (2 acres) in the project area. The details
of achievement in agriculture are given below:-

Apart from agriculture, Land and Water (L&W) related structures are also being constructed. Construction
of two shallow wells has already been completed and 12 irrigation wells and 6 shallow wells are under
progress. 3 Farmer Service Centers (FSC) are also under construction.
