Integrated Watershed Development Project (IWDP)

fter successful completion of Integrated Watershed Mission Project in Angara Block of Ranchi
District, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrma, Divyayan KVK was entrusted to implement a similar project
Ain Murhu and Khunti Blocks of Khunti district in collaboration with Ministry of Rural Development
for developing watersheds covering 6969.13 ha land, involving 33 villages under 9 Gram Panchayats.
The main objective of the IWMP was to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and
developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. The outcomes were
prevention of soil run-off, regeneration of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting and recharging of the
ground water table. This will enable multi-cropping and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities,
which will help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.
The project was inaugurated by Sri Nilkanth Singh Munda, Hon’ble, Rural Development Minister, Govt. of
Jharkhand at Miliyada village of Khunti District on 23/05/2017.The project area was treated under ridge to
valley approach.
