Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, is one of the premier institute of health sciences in India
located in Bariatu, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It is an autonomous institute established under an act of
Jharkhand assembly. It was established as RMCH in 1959-1960 which was later upgraded to RIMS in
2002.The medical college came into existence in 1965.
Its campus is spread over 200 acres of land which includes college and hospital buildings, hostel for
undergraduate and postgraduates’ students, staff and doctors’ quarters. The college and hospital building
consists of 5 multistoried complexes including academic building, OPD Complex, inpatient wards of
various departments along with interconnected super specialty blocks and trauma center. Separate
buildings for Dental institute and new administrative block are also present in the campus. A separate
block for Regional Institute of Ophthalmology with all modern facilities is also coming up.
The institute has more than 1500 operational beds for patients in our multispecialty hospital. The
current attendance of out-patient department is ~2500 while that of in-patients is more than 1500. The
institute constantly strives to increase these number to serve the ever-increasing number of patients
who need in-patient or out-patient services from the institute. It also has 100 bed trauma center, the
first of its kind in eastern India. RIMS has about 35 departments which include 24-hour emergency,
Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine,
Orthopedics, Radiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Urology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Cardio
vascular, Neurology, Psychiatry and Thoracic Surgery, Oncology, PMR etc. All the departments are
equipped with latest machines and technologies. It has its own Blood Bank, Nursing and Dental college.
Several small buildings like CSSD, mechanized laundry, kitchen, mortuary etc. are also situated within
the campus.
The academic building houses all the lecture theatres, practical halls, superintendent’s office and pre-
para clinical departments. Lecture theatre of Department of Anatomy is situated adjacent to the academic
complex. There is a separate building for dental college situated behind the super specialty block. Nursing
school has two separate buildings. State of art Blood Bank and well equipped New Trauma Centre
provides highest level of care to the patient admitted in RIMS. It also has a paying ward of 100 bed
capacity for well off patients. There is a beautiful auditorium with accommodation of around 500 people.
SBI and Indian banks are situated within the RIMS campus for convenience of doctors, students and
staff.
RIMS considers that its prime societal contribution is to transform students entering its portals into
competent, sincere, and dedicated health professionals.
The institute provides numerous courses which includes MBBS, MD/MS, DM, MCh, BDS and other
