paramedical courses. The Ph.D. program was also initiated recently in year 2020-21 to augment the
educational standards of the institution. It has approximately 1000 medical, 200 dental, 400 nursing, and
300 paramedical students. There are nearly 500 junior residents, 150 senior residents, and 250 faculty
members in the institute dedicating themselves to patient care. There is yearly intake of 180 seats for
MBBS students and 50 for BDS. There are eight boys hostel and two girls hostel to cater these students.
These are meant for undergraduates, post graduates, interns and also house-surgeons. Along with it
there are quarters for doctors, nurses and staffs within the campus and in Doctor’s colony which is less
than half a kilometer from main institute.
We strive to engage our students and residents in multidisciplinary research to foster critical thinking
skills and prepare them well to face the challenges and opportunities of the future. For this we have
initiated PhD programs, Central Research Facility, multiple course-works and certification courses and
regular seminars and conferences round the year to sustain a vibrant research atmosphere. We are
working in multiple projects in collaboration with local institutes like Birla Institute of Technology-Mesra,
Ranchi University, Central Institute of Psychiatry and other national institutions.
The Institute have Medical Education Unit (MEU), Institutional Ethics Committee(IEC), Research Advisory
Committee(RAC). MEU regularly organizes workshops on medical education technology. Two high level
meeting of RAC chaired by Dr. Vishwa Mohan Katoch, has also organized by this year. Institutional
Ethics Committee (IEC), RIMS, Ranchi was constituted in the year 2006 to ensure a competent review of
scientific and ethical aspects of the research project proposals. It is now working as per GCP guidelines
and ICMR guidelines 2019. In the year 2021, 98 research proposals have been approved out of 112
submitted, 2 were not approved whereas 12 are pending for the modified versions.
RIMS is also committed to serving the community at large by serving not only those who come to its
campus, but it also has an extensive outreach program in form of community services. For this purpose,
we have two peripheral centers; one is RHTC Ormanjhi and other UHTC Doranda located at 20 kms
and 10 kms respectively from the institute. Through these community programs we travel to far and
distant corners of the state and try to understand the health problems specific to certain communities and
implementation of various state and center sponsored projects.
In recent time of current pandemic, we have set an example in serving COVID 19 patients from all over
the state and also from adjoining states. We have shown our excellence in screening, sample testing and
in patient care of COVID 19 patients. Along with it, we have also started vaccination against COVID 19.
There are dozens of researches which have been carried out and still going on in the institute.
With the vision “To deliver medical services of the highest standard where excellence, compassion and
innovation set the standards, where interests of the patients and their families hold top priority, where
technology is state-of-the-art, where our faculty, students and staff experience an efficient and cooperative
atmosphere and where today`s education and research leads to tomorrow’s cure”, We are dedicated to
provide excellent and affordable health care services We care for the sick and believe in treating all with
respect and dignity which comes from compassion and collaboration of our doctors, staff and students.
